THRIANTA RABBITS
Sunrise Creek Farm is proud to present each of our litters of Thriantas! With bloodlines from Glen Carr, Sonja Lyons, Anne Ott, and Bill Mairs our efforts are paying off at the rabbit shows.

The THRIANTA RABBIT is an eye-catching, brilliant, red rabbit with fawn coloring under its paws and tail. The fur is soft, dense and medium in length. The ideal senior weight for this compact breed is 5 to 6 pounds.
Originating in the Netherlands, the Thriantas were further developed in Germany before being imported into the United Kingdom in the early 1980's. During the 1990's, the breed arrived in the United States from both the Netherlands and England. ARBA Secretary, Glen Carr, is responsible for the acceptance of the Thrianta breed in the Standard of Perfection for rabbits and cavies in the U.S. on February 1, 2006.
While maintaining our consistantly firey color, Sunrise Creek Farm is dedicated to outstanding conformation of these newly developing rabbits. We are focused on meeting the Standard in every way, but are especially proud of the short heads and thickly furred ears that our offspring sport with their short, smoothly rounded bodies.

Sunrise Lunar; a buck from BH's Redman and Pacific Jill. This boy already has 7 legs and was offered for sale at the Washington State Convention in June. He sold before the show began and is now owned by Ken Motz and family in Oregon.
It was time to try our luck and fly our rabbits to the lower 48 to see if we could hold our own on the show tables. On June 21 & 22 we attended the Washington State Convention. I met many wonderful people, learned more than I thought I could absorb in so short a period, and had a wonderful time!

Here is Anne Ott (Irish Rose Rabbitry) scribing for judge, John Grimm (IA) at the Washington State Convention. There were over 20 Thrianta rabbits in each of the Senior Doe and Senior Buck classes, with more than 54 total Thriantas shown altogether! I don't yet have a picture of Sunrise HoneyMoon's Over (O'Boy) to post, but he did us proud and earned himself a leg at the show. This makes for the 2nd championship leg for our three month old buck!

Bill Mairs and Nancy Richmond pull the hair out of a competitor's rabbit while the judge pretends not to notice. (Sorry, I can only stay serious for so long! Naturally, Bill and Nancy were NOT doing any such thing!)
Here is Sunrise HoneyMoon's Over, but we just call him O'Boy!

This picture was taken while O'Boy was still an awkward 3 1/2 month old junior buck, but even at this strange stage of development, potential can be seen. He will be put to work as soon as he is old enough to know what God put him on earth to do. He is out of Sunrise HoneyMoon and BH's Redman.
We attended the Alaska Judges Convention on July 25th. We learned much from judges Allen Mesick, Randy Shumaker, Brad Boyce, and Randy Cler. Following the conference on July 26 & 27 was the Alaska State Rabbit & Cavy Show.

The judges help to celebrate Bugs Bunny's 50th Anniversary during the rabbit & cavy show. From left to right are: Jason Whitehurst (cavy), Allen Mesick (rabbit), Sheryl Newland (cavy), Randy Shumaker (rabbit & cavy), and Brad Boyce (rabbit).

Judge to be, April Wright assisted on both days to complete her requirements to qualify as a judge.

I had the pleasure of scribing for Allen Mesick on both days. I was too busy to grab my camera to take pictures, but Charlie took these. If I had taken pictures, they would have been of a pair of rabbits that we are very proud of.....and they aren't of our breeding! All of our Sunrise Creek does are either pregnant, kindling, nursing, or recovering after a weaning so we had nothing of our own to show. To support the clubs and the Thrianta breed, we entered two of our rabbits from Sonja Lyons' Bramblehedge Rabbitry. BH's Redman (our herd sire) won 4 more championship legs and BH's Persimmon (doe) grabbed herself a couple more legs while she was at it too! Thank you Sonja for allowing us the privelege of owning your wonderful animals.

Rose currently has a beautiful litter of 6 that will be weaned and ready to go on July 15th. Three are already reserved and three are still remaining.

Rose was bred to Sunrise Lunar (champion buck shown at top of page) to produce these little darlings. With only three left available, visit our 'for sale' page for details on reserving your show and breeding quality Thriantas now!
The next litter will be available on August 9th from Pacific Jill (Glen Carr) and Sunrise Lunar. These will be the last available Thriantas from Lunar in the state of Alaska.
2008 Thriantas!

Here is a wonderful picture of Jill as she prepares her nest for her latest litter. She refused to use the nest box this time after I reloaded her box with straw several times in the last couple days before she kindled. In the end, I gave up and let her have her way. She built two nests of her own and filled them both. After letting her rest for a couple of hours, I filled her nest box with straw (again), warmed it, lined it with some of her hair, and moved her babies in. The arrangement worked for everyone involved and mom and kits are doing great.

Here is a peek at Jill's babies while they are still only a couple of hours old!

This little cutie is the offspring of Pacific Jill and DTL's Tamale and was one week old at the time this picture was taken. This particular kit is being raised by Rose, who likes to keep her little ones fat and happy!
